Step 2.
Check the eligibility criteria: Once you find your occupation, check your eligibility. Each occupation on the Skilled Occupation List has specific eligibility criteria that you must meet, such as qualifications, work experience, and registration or licensing requirements. Now click on the ANZCO code next to your occupation. This will open a new page that details the skill set and qualification requirements for this particular occupation. Choose the right visa: Each occupation on the list has all the visas for which the occupation is qualified. You can take note of the visas and check the requirements on the Department of Home Affairs website. Possible visas that require skilled assessment are Visa 491, Visa 190, Visa 189, Visa 185, Visa 482, etc. Please check the visa requirements to determine if you require a skill assessment. Skilled Visa Options for Occupations on the Skilled Occupation List
The following visas are available to individuals who are qualified to work or train in an eligible skilled occupation in Australia and can meet all other requirements:
Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189): This is a permanent visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member nor nominated by a state or territory government. You must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited to apply for this visa.
Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190): This is a permanent visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory government. You must submit an EOI and receive an invitation to apply.
Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 489): This is a temporary visa for skilled workers who are sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated regional area or nominated by an Australian state or territory government. After meeting specific residency and employment requirements, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency through the Skilled Regional (subclass 887) visa.
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491): This is a provisional visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory government or sponsored by an eligible family member living in a designated regional area. This visa allows you to live and work in regional Australia for up to five years, after which you may be eligible for the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191), provided you meet specific requirements.
Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482): This temporary visa allows skilled workers to work for an approved employer in an occupation listed on the SOL. The duration of this visa depends on the nominated occupation and can range from one to four years. The TSS visa has pathways to permanent residency under certain conditions.
Employer Nomination Scheme visa (Subclass 186): This visa enables skilled workers who have received nominations from their employer to live and work permanently in Australia.
