More Insight on the US Based Nigerian Cardiologist Who Shot Himself Dead After Losing Child Support Battle

A 36year old  Nigerian Cardiologist, based in the United States of America, Ikenna Erinne reportedly committed suicide after court orders him to pay $15000 child support to his wife, Suzzette Chibuogu Van-Lare. This sad incident occurred on Sunday 26th of January.

Dr Ikenna, an Anambra state born Doctor, was in a long time divorce battle with his estranged wife. However, he lost his case as a US court ruled in favour of his wife, ordering him to pay a monthly $15000 as child support for his two children.

Clayton Udo, a Nigerian-American on X confirmed this incident, stating that the long time court battle and the verdict took a financial toll on him, leading to him committing suicide.

Udo wrote:  “The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end. In a deeply troubling case, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, an American-trained cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after an American court ordered him to pay his ex-wife $15,000 monthly, following a prolonged and contentious divorce case. This tragic incident highlights the systemic issues within the legal system that disproportionately affect African men.”

Although there are claims that he lost his practicing licence, his father in-law Francis Van-lare in a Facebook post has counter this to be untrue he said “to set records straight, Dr Ikenna Erinne’s licence was never revoked. He has active licenses in Illinois, New York, Virginia, and Maryland so one state cannot revoke all licenses at once though none was revoked”

The 36 year old Doctor was survived by his  two children, parents and siblings.
