A Nigerian Canadian Doctor Forced to Operate on His Daughter Under Bizarre Condition

A Nigerian Canadian doctor, Dr Amos Akinbiyi, has sued the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). Accusing them of  racism, breach of contract, intimidation and more.

The Regina doctor who has trained dozens of  doctors as an Ob-gyn, was forced to perform an operation on his daughter and save her life as she gave birth.

According to Dr Akinbiyi, there were doctors and other staff available, but he was instead called upon to perform the surgery on his daughter, something he said was ethically inappropriate and as a Nigerian, a Taboo.

When he got upset, he was told to go home.

He states “How will I go home,when my daughter is caught in code blue?”(Between life and death)

He filed complaints against SHA official, the SHA then filed their own complaints against him, something Dr Akinbiyi said is motivated by racism.

He further explained that this is not the first time the SHA will be doing this to some ethnic doctor and he is committed to pursuing this case to the very end despite all the financial involvement and exhaustion. 

He said “ This is a task for generations to come”.

However, Dr Akinbiyi’s allegations haven’t yet been proven in court.
